Drug Treatment

In the past few years such places like rehabs and detox’s have been steadily decreasing. In fact I was shocked to discover that the last detox that I was in closed a few months after I was there.

It’s a sad reality that the options that once were readily available in order to help people who suffered from an addiction of sorts are now less available. But I also now stand in a point of contrast in which I can see that some of these avenues are not as effective as some would like, if they were I probably wouldn’t of had to go into 12 different detoxes.

The solution that was offered to me came from the inner willingness I had to get clean and the opportunity to abstain from substances, the lifestyle and the danger of my own thinking was through a drug rehab.

I don’t believe just going to rehab was the defining factor of why I stayed clean, but it was part of the reason of how I originally got clean.

There are a lot of misconceived notions about what addiction really is and the methods of treatment at most offer a partial type of solution to the underlying problem…sort of like putting a band-aid on cancer.

I myself am a firm believer that addiction is a disease of body, mind and spirit that has the capacity to be put into a state of remission through various maintenance of self. I am involved in 12 step programs that help me to keep my focus on where I am and where I am going through the process of helping other addicts maintain their recovery.

I don’t think that there is one answer to addiction, but I am partial to the one that has worked so well for me up until this point in time.

I came across a drug treatment center located in Michigan called Stone Hawk. They claim to have almost an 80% success rate as opposed to other methods and approaches to drug rehabilitation.  For myself personally I found this to be an astonishing rate of success, especially when compared to sometimes dismal rates of other alternative types of treatment to addiction.

I found this statement from the site in relation to the program they offer:

Graduates of the program do not go to weekly meetings, as that would only serve as a crutch keeping them from fully recovering. As such, a graduate is not considered to be recovering, as the graduate has already fully recovered. By completing the Narconon Stone Hawk drug rehab program, students will have developed a new orientation in their lives. The premise of the treatment program employed at Stone Hawk is that students leaving the program will be able to move back into their lives with success.

Weekly meetings a crutch ?????????

Although I may not agree wholeheartedly in their opinion of meetings being a crutch, I did like the approach they take on the idea of successfully treating the addiction and finding relief from the aspects of it through the process of recovery that they focus upon.

There approach on addiction focuses on learning new skills for a life free from drugs and not on other models of treatment that approaches addiction as a disease or illness. They do not use any type of drugs for the detox process and instead use a method focused on a variety of proper nutrition, vitamins and proper medical care.

I found a wealth of other information through their blog which addresses such issues related to addiction such as “stopping” and getting into the process of recovery whatever kind one wishes to explore,  treatment as well as other issues that relate to the subject of addiction.

  1. Thanks BW…

It’s weird to think that there is ANOTHER way…but who am I to disagree with that line of reasoning…it’s the basis of all my writings :) But regardless I’m always looking for all the stuff that’s out there…because you never know! Plus people are always coming to me and asking me “what do I do?” I can only tell them what I did…but it’s good to know that there are other ways to achieve a life free from the grips…..
